National Planning Policy

Development of RE, including that derived from solar PV, is a central aim of the European Commissions’ energy policy & the Gov’ts 2007 Energy White Paper

Increasingly more enthuses on climate change mitigation & RE deployment
  - legally binding 15% target by 2020

PPS22 – under the heading ‘The Governments Objectives’, in order to meet commitments on both climate change & RE, the Gov’t aims to facilitate through positive planning…
  - new sources of energy in remote areas
  - reductions in emissions of greenhouse gasses & reliance on fossil fuels
  - the creation of jobs directly related to RE developments
  - development of new technologies

Regional planning bodies & local planning authorities should look favourably on schemes if key principles are met…

  - Technology is viable & environmental, economic, & the social impacts can be addressed satisfactorily
  - Regional spatial strategies & local development documents should contain policies designed to promote & encourage, rather than restrict, the development of RE sources

PPS22 - In rural areas, RE projects have the potential to play an increasingly important role in the diversification of rural economies

The scheme adheres to all of the above criteria

The proposed development is also clearly in line with the key planning objectives directed at regional planning authorities in PPS1 on climate change & global sustainability
