Astell Foundation was formed in December 2008 and is funded by Astell Group companies, our yearly fundraising event and personal donations from people who like what we do. Every penny that we raise goes to helping homeless people and as of early 2010 we are in the process of housing our seventh homeless person. Our goal is to house 20 people by December 2010.
The Foundation created the Tenancy and Support Scheme (TASS), a rent deposit scheme run in conjunction with West London Churches Homeless Concern and Streetlytes
TASS enables homeless people who use the services of the WLCHC and Streetlytes access to sustainable accommodation in the Privately Rented Sector (PRS). Our sole objective for TASS is to help homeless people find their own home and keep it. Larger charities like St Mungo’s and Shelter are successfully helping ease the problem of homelessness in London but it is still very much at large.
Recent statistics have shown that 80% of the homeless have drug and alcohol issues or have suffered some form of abuse. Any people who are invited onto TASS and have such a problem have to been clean for 6 months or more and to date we have a 100% success rate of our TASS guests staying clean and sustaining their tenancy and a condition is they keep going to NA and AA for the duration of their tenancy.
Astell Foundation offer more than just the above to our TASS guests and some of our trustees and charity partners are on call to them 7 days a week, 365 days a year if need be. We help them get into skills training, putting together their CV, getting back into work, helping them get involved in local community projects and even going along to the gym with them to work up a sweat.
